Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

Consider this thread a "gift."

  • Fresh off the heels of essentially killing a woman in Ireland by refusing her a life-saving abortion after a miscarriage, a Minnesota teen is being denied confirmation because he expressed his support for marriage equality on Facebook.

Stupid part is, these same people will go to conferences and start wringing their hands about why young people aren't as interested in organized religion any more. Here's a hint: it's shit like this.

  • Good news for public transportation in Los Angeles.
  • This is amazing. Not just the fact that we appear to have discovered most distant galaxy that we have heretofore observed in the universe, but also the description of the astronomical processes scientists use to determine that fact. Science is amazing, no matter how much Republicans hate it.
  • Fresh off the AP calling California's 7th Congressional District race (Sacramento County) for Democrat Dr. Ami Bera over incumbent Republican Dan Lungren, another race is now over: Republican incumbent Brian Bilbray has conceded his race in the the state's 52nd Congressional District to former San Diego City Councilman Scott Peters.
  • The religious right is now lashing out at religious African-Americans for supporting Barack Obama instead of putting hatred of gays and women first. Let's hear it for inclusivity!
  • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has now thrown Mitt Romney under every single wheel of every single bus in the state:
“Yeah, sure,” Christie replied when asked by MSNBC host Joe Scarborough if Romney’s comments were “a terrible thing to say.” “You can’t expect to be the leader of all the people and be divisive,” Christie continued. “You have to talk about themes, policies, that unite people.”

Prominent Republican governors have united in their condemnation of Romney’s remarks, which he made in a post-election call with donors. Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal, Wisconsin’s Scott Walker and New Mexico’s Susana Martinez have also distanced themselves from the man who was their party’s standard-bearer only two weeks ago.

Christie did excuse Romney’s remarks, nothing the candidate is still feeling the disappointment.

Not that he's wrong, of course, because Mitt Romney really is that much of a dick.
  • The latest rant from Rush Limbaugh is that Obama's tax plan will replace capitalism as America's economic system. Apparently, under the tax rates operative under Bill Clinton, all that job creation was the result of communism.
  • It's a drop in the ocean, but at least it's something:
JPMorgan Chase and Credit Suisse agreed to pay $417 million in a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over their handling of subprime mortgages, the agency said Friday.

The banks did not admit or deny guilt. JPMorgan agreed to pay $296.9 million to settle the charges and Credit Suisse agreed to pay $120 million.

Robert Khuzami, director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, in a statement called mortgage products like those sold by the banks “ground zero in the financial crisis.”
