Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Michigan just demonstrated how ALEC writes laws for States:

Analysis of Flawed Right to Work Legislation Shows Governor, Republican Legislators, Had Never Reviewed Language Prior to Signing it Into Law

“It's become increasingly clear that the Governor presented the legislature with bills written by out-of-state extremists who had no understanding of Michigan's constitution or how our laws apply to Michigan workers,” said Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer.
Chump change for ALEC and right wing extremists with a much bigger agenda.

A HANDBOOK for State Lawmakers by Robert G. Natelson, ALEC

Proposing Constitutional Amendments by a Convention of the States.

About the Author
Rob Natelson is one of America’s best known constitu- tional scholars. For 23 years, he served as Professor of Law at the University of Mon- tana, where he taught Con-
stitutional Law and became a recognized national expert on the framing and adoption of the United States Constitu- tion.

This Handbook is written for state lawmakers, support staff, and other interested Americans.

The goal is to enable state lawmakers to employ the state application and convention process as the Founders intended: legally, effectively, and safely.

This Handbook offers accurate, well-researched information about the process, including how to trigger it, valuable safeguards, and legal forms.

This Handbook also corrects common myths about the procedure—perhaps the foremost of which is that the convention authorized by Article V is a “constitutional convention.”

Do you think this Handbook is all for naught?

Back in March, FeltzNook wrote an in-depth diary, Constitution Under Attack!

I missed this diary, too.  However, we ignore ALEC's big picture agenda at our own peril.

Actually, FeltzNook and Bob Sloan are working tirelessly to raise the ALEC alarms.

I am surprised by low little attention their research gets, if the number of RECS are an indication.

Well, I bet the people in Michigan have now heard the alarm.

Intro

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

Progressives and liberals wake up call!  We have lost control at the state level.  Now what?

Highly recommend reading and watching Maddows video in this diary:

Rachel Maddow Shows Republican Stealing Democracy In 90 Seconds (VIDEO)

Rachel answers a question that keeps me awake at night:  How is it that states that vote for a Democratic President, end up with GOP controlled legislatures?  The math makes no sense.  I

I wonder what Constitutional Amendment ALEC would prioritize?

No surprise:

With Courts Standing in Way of Voter Suppression, Wisconsin's ALEC Chair Seeks to Amend Constitution to Require ID at Polls

Vos also advocated an end to Wisconsin's same-day voter registration law, which has helped the state achieve one of the highest voter turnout rates in the nation and would likely impact the same communities most affected by a voter ID law. Just weeks after Wisconsin reelected President Barack Obama and elected Tammy Baldwin to the U.S. Senate, thanks in part to near-record turnout from people of color and students, Governor Scott Walker expressed support for ending same day registration. Two legislators have since indicated they are writing a bill to end the 40-year-old law.
It begins with State Consitutions.

If you are not up to snuff on ALEC, here's a great start

Corporate America’s TROJAN HORSE in the States

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) boasts:  In the legislative Sessions of 2000, there were more than 2150 introductions promoting ALEC Policy

Does anyone here really think all that has and is happening did, or is doing so, willy nilly?

$Million, maybe $Billions of dollars and decades of planning have taken place.

80 Years of Planning: The Kochs + The Family + Birchers = No Democracy

There are no accidents, other than the American people turning up at the polls every 4 years to reject the Right Wing agenda.  ALEC is working on this with voter suppression laws.

The only solution I can envision to all this is to GOTV every day in an effort to get more progressive voters to the voting booths for EVERY election from dog catcher up to President.  Crunch the numbers for each district in your state, and get boots on the ground in districts that need to be turned.

Will we or can we work hard enough to turn the tides before voter suppression laws become laws?

Do we continue to be slowly boiling frogs?
