Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Official War on Christmas Fundraiser

Over the past 10 years, we've raised more than $10 million at Daily Kos for Democratic candidates. We plan to keep doing so, getting better Democrats into office across the country. But to make it happen, we now need to raise some money for the site itself. You can read Markos's post about why this is necessary here. One great thing about our Official War on Christmas Fundraiser, you can help the site at the same time you help yourself or someone you know by buying a subscription. Or, if you already have a subscription or wish to contribute more than a subscription costs, you can simply donate here. Thank you for all that you do.

Honolulu, Hawaii:
They were Democrats and Republicans who, for one day at least, left behind the bitter budget fight playing out in the capital to pay tribute on Sunday to Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii, a Democrat, who died last Monday at 88 after serving in the Senate for five decades.

Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont snapped pictures here at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Senator Jon Tester of Montana held a silver trumpet, which he would use to play taps to close the service. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who thought Mr. Inouye was such a champion of her home state that she called him its third senator, was also there to pay respects.

And President Obama, seated in the first row, put his arm around his wife, Michelle, and talked with her softly as they waited for the coffin to be carried down the aisle.

Blast from the Past. At Daily Kos on this date in 2004'Clash over Christmas"? Or "Clash in Fallujah'?:

U.S. Marine infantrymen fought with insurgents in Fallujah on Thursday as warplanes and tanks bombarded guerrilla positions in the heaviest fighting here in weeks. The clashes raged as nearly 1,000 residents returned to the devastated city for the first time since U.S. troops drove out most of the militants last month. At least three Marines were killed in combat that underlined how far the city and surrounding area are from being tamed as the United States and its Iraqi allies try to bring quiet before national elections Jan. 30.

Yes, this is an actual story with an actual fucking point for us for Christmas.

We are governed by the lyingest, most incompetent, scummy bastards in the history of the nation.  They don't have a clue as to what to do about this Iraq Debacle.  We're in deep shit.

Happy Holidays and, don't forget, Merry Christmas to the Save Merry Christmas Committee.
