Posting a Diary Entry
Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as
is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.
When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.
If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.
ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.
One diary daily maximum.
Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries
that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.
A first-grade teacher at a Houston-area charter school is out of a job and facing criminal charges for fondling one of her students. If it were possible to get more disgusting than that, investigators say the teacher claims she's innocent because she's prejudiced.
Officials said the incident involving Irene Stokes, 61, allegedly happened on March 22 inside a classroom at Northwest Preparatory Academy, which is located in the 600 block of Charles Street.
"It’s just nasty, you 61, you grown, you have no business touching on nobody's child," said the victim's mother.
“The victim said that she was in the classroom alone with the teacher and that the teacher touched her on the outside of her clothes, on what she called her ‘private part,’ her vaginal area,” said Humble Police Department Detective J. Blanchard.
The 6-year-old girl said when she told her teacher to stop, Irene Stokes, 61, told her to get out of the classroom, according to court records. The girl told investigators that Stokes made her stand out in the hallway outside of the class and then refused to allow her to eat lunch or take a test.
That afternoon, the girl burst out crying to her mother about what happened. The mother immediately called the school, which placed Stokes on leave and fired her after conducting its own investigation. When Humble police were called in, Stokes dropped a bombshell.
“She (said she) doesn’t like to even touch the black children on their hand, she shies away when they try to hug her -- she admitted to being prejudice,” Blanchard said.
“It’s an all basically dominate black school, so why were you there anyway,” asked the victim’s mother. "I’m hurt, angry to the fullest. I feel like you send your kids to school to learn.”
Stokes is due in court on May 21. She could get up to 20 years in prison if convicted. But even if she's acquitted, she just did a pretty good job of showing that she has no business in a classroom.
