Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Hey kossacks I need your help.

As you might know, I'm about to launch a new business that's focused on state and local democratic candidates and progressive causes at the state level. State and local politics has been a bee in my bonnet for some time and in fact was what promoted me to found the Dkos State and Local Action Group back when DK4 was brand new.

Well, I need some help from you. If you've ever run for office at the state or local level or managed a state or local candidate or cause campaign, no matter how big or small, you can help me a lot by taking my quick survey. And if you haven't, but know someone who has, please please pass this along to them. Here's what I'm trying to figure out:

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

The new business (which I promise to tell you more about next weekend) is focused on leveling the playing field for Team Blue at the state and local levels by providing them with services our opposition can afford but our side usually can't. Things like a professionally done website, ads, press releases, media training, debate training, message development...all the things that make a candidate a serious contender.

The business aims to provide these services at a professional level but for seriously low pricing (I'll tell you how next weekend, I promise). But here's the thing: I don't believe in a "one size fits all" pricing scheme. That's because a school board candidate in Michigan is going to have a different fundraising profile and different financial resources than an incumbent senator in Maryland or someone running as a challenger for a house seat in Alabama.

So I want to price things affordably for every Democrat, regardless of where they are, understanding that "affordable" is a completely subjective term.

This is where you can help me. I need to collect some data. With it, I'll try to create a formula that allows me to price these services fairly so that every Democrat or progressive cause can afford them no matter where they're running or what they're running for. I'm calling it a "variable pricing structure".

If you could take this very quick, totally anonymous survey, it would go a long way to helping our party even the playing field, run competitively even against well funded republicans and hopefully start returning our nation to sanity by claiming our statehouses and city and county governments for Team Blue.

Thanks in advance! And BTW, if you have any questions, ideas, suggestions, comments please also feel free to kosmail me.
