Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

ALEC Doesn't Support It's Legislation - when the press gets too bad.

Ever had one of those moments when you did exactly what the boss told you to do - it went badly and then the boss lets you take the fall for it?  Most of us refer to it as getting the shaft - kicked to the curb or ....

Many of us have had that experience.

ALEC legislators go to ALEC meetings - pick up legislation written by corporations and distributed to them by ALEC - to implement in your state.
We all know the schtick.
And it's worked pretty well for ALEC legislators - up 'til now.

Now, ALEC legislators are going to find out what happens
- when you do what you were told
- and then you are left blowing in the wind
- cause there is no one to support you,
no one to put out press releases for you ,
no one to cover your rear or come to your rescue

- when all they were doing - was what ALEC/NRA told them to do.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

From ALECExposed

Castle Doctrine Act
This act authorizes the use of force, including deadly force, against an intruder or
attacker in a dwelling, residence, or vehicle under specified circumstances.
It further creates a presumption that a reasonable fear of death or great bodily
harm exists under these specific circumstances, and declares that a person has no
duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with
If you click the link and look at the top of the page you will see the ALEC logo.

If you look at the bottom of the document you will see:

Adopted by ALEC's Civil Justice Task Force at the Annual Meeting, August 4, 2005.
Approved by the ALEC Board of Directors September, 2005
Distributed to ALEC legislators -and then implemented in 22 states, even though those states already had decent castle doctrine laws already on their books

All for ALEC.
Cause ALEC told them to.

And yet today you have this:

When asked Monday about ALEC's current position, Bill Meierling, senior director of public affairs at the organization, emailed us this response:

"The American Legislative Exchange Council does not support Stand Your Ground policies. The Council focuses solely on pro-growth, economic issues to increase opportunity for all Americans."

Now – ask yourself this:

If you were an ALEC legislator who knows that introducing ALEC legislation helps you get scholarships to ALEC meetings and you had taken this legislation, given to you by ALEC, back to your state and implemented it from the copy that ALEC gave you:

declares that a person has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force
You did exactly what ALEC had told you to do
– maybe changing a few words here and there
– so it didn’t look exactly like the ALEC Castle Doctrine on ALECExposed.

But, you did what you were told.
You introduced the legislation or some version of the legislation.
And now, when the heat is on – ALEC is kicking you to the curb.

"The American Legislative Exchange Council does not support Stand Your Ground policies”
Wouldn’t you be – just a little pissed right now?
ALEC to ALEC legislators
You're on your own - we want no part of what you did.
"The American Legislative Exchange Council does not support Stand Your Ground policies”
ALEC Dumps ALEC Legislators

Kicked to the curb by their precious organization.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of people.

Next ALEC Meeting
August  7-9
Palmer Hote
See you there!!!
