Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

The latest Virginia Senate poll from PPP confirms once again that Senator Mark Warner (D. VA) is safe for re-election:

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/...

PPP's newest Virginia poll finds that Mark Warner as ever remains the most popular politician in the state and would have double digit leads over a handful of high profile Republicans for reelection.

51% of voters approve of the job Warner is doing to 31% who disapprove. He would lead Bob McDonnell by 15 (51/36), Bob Marshall and Eric Cantor by 16 each (50/34 and 52/36 respectively), and Bill Bolling by 18 (53/35) in hypothetical match ups. - PPP, 7/19/13

PPP surveyed 601 registered voters between July 11-14, 2013. The margin of error was +- 4.0%. The poll also included oversamples of 415 Republican primary voters and 357 Democratic primary voters and the margins of error on those are +-4.8% and +/-5.2% respectively.  Warner's numbers have actually improved since PPP's poll from May:

http://www.dailykos.com/...

Mark Warner continues to be by far and away Virginia's most popular politician, and doesn't look like he would face much trouble for reelection regardless of who the Republicans put up next year.

53% of Virginians approve of the job Warner is doing to only 27% who disapprove. He's at 58/25 with independents, and has 26% crossover approval from Republicans. He would have an 11 point lead in a hypothetical match up with Bob McDonnell, 50/39. He would also lead Eric Cantor by 19 points at 53/34 and Bill Bolling by 21 points at 54/33. Cantor continues to be unpopular statewide, with only 26% of voters rating him favorably to 40% who have a negative opinion. - PPP, 5/30/13

Warner and Governor Bob McDonnell (R. VA) have often been mentioned as potential Presidential candidates.  If either men have their eyes set on the White House, PPP's poll rains on their parade:
As well liked as Warner is, he would still be no match for Hillary Clinton in the state if she ran for President in 2016. 51% of Democrats say she would be their pick for the nomination to 14% for Joe Biden, 11% for Warner, 6% for Elizabeth Warren, 4% for Cory Booker, 3% for Martin O'Malley, and 2% for Andrew Cuomo.

That at least gives Warner more home state support for the White House than McDonnell has. He finishes 6th in the Republican Presidential standings- there's a pile up at the top with Jeb Bush and Chris Christie both at 16%, followed by Rand Paul at 15%, Marco Rubio at 12%, Paul Ryan at 11%, Ted Cruz at 9%, McDonnell at 8%, Bobby Jindal at 4%, and Rick Santorum at 2%. - PPP, 7/19/13

Clinton leads all GOP opponents in Virginia from single to double digits except Governor Chris Christie (R. NJ) who she only leads by one point, 42/41.  The poll also has Warner's colleague, Senator Tim Kaine (D. VA) with a 43/40 approval rating.  The poll also shows expanded background checks are supporters by 75% of Virginia voters and it has large support amongst Democrats, Republicans and Independents.  Virginians also support the Voting Rights Act 45/20 and the majority opposes the Supreme Court's ruling to overturn parts of the Voting Rights Act, 48/23.
