Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

Scene:  Dem campaign rally in any purple or purple/red House district.  Date: October 2014. Candidate stands at a bridge that’s busy but badly in need of repair, a victim of austerity.  He/she outlines plan to fund repairs for infrastructure, and how it would create jobs. But, doing so is virtually impossible with Republican obstructionism.  The candidate asks:  “What’s our plan?”
At this point a Celebrity Guest steps forward.  We could go big here, with someone like Bill, Hillary or Joe, or perhaps a rock star, or maybe just someone famous locally, like the college’s star running back.  Anyway, someone who can draw a crowd and gin it up.  The Celebrity Guest says “Jobs and Bridges”.
Candidate:  What’s our plan?
Celebrity Guest, encouraging the crowd to join in:  Jobs and Bridges!
Candidate:  Can’t hear you
Candidate: What’s the Republican plan?
Celebrity Guest: (pointing to bridge) Let it crumble!
Candidate: What’s their plan?
Celebrity Guest, encouraging the crowd to join in:  Let it crumble!
Candidate: Can’t hear you!
Candidate:  How do we fix that?
Celebrity Guest:  Vote!
Candidate:  How do we fix that?
Crowd joins in:  VOTE!
Candidate: WHAT’S OUR PLAN?
Candidate: HOW DO WE FIX THAT?
Crowd:  VOTE!!!
Next, the candidate introduces two people.  Candidate explains they have low-wage jobs and suffer from the same disease.  One lives locally, where Medicaid was not expanded. The other lives in the nearest blue state, where it was.  The local has not been able to afford treatment, but the blue-stater has, via Obamacare and Medicaid, and is on the road to recovery.
Candidate:  What’s our plan?
Celebrity Guest and both sufferers of the disease:  Heal us, Doctor!
A minute later, once the crowd gets into it:
Candidate:  WHAT’S OUR PLAN?
Crowd:  HEAL US, DOCTOR!!!
Candidate:  WHAT’S THEIR PLAN?
Crowd:  LET IT FESTER!!!
Candidate:  HOW DO WE FIX THAT?
Crowd:  VOTE!!!!!
If enough Dem candidates adopt this tactic, and keep at it, the crowds will know what to say without prompting.  These words will be the first thing anyone thinks of when they think of the midterm election.  With rhythm, cadence and brevity, the red-blue divide is crystallized in terms simple enough for even a Tea Partier to understand.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

I’m a lurker but an avid one. Was inspired to write this as I attended the 50th anniversary March on Washington.
