Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Most of us have hair to one degree or another.   Join me below the orange squiggle to learn some interesting facts about hair.

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group!  Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!  If you would like to write a diary, let us know in a comment.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

Female hair grows more slowly than male hair.

Redheads don't feel pain the same way everyone else does.   They are less sensitive to electrically induced pain, but more to thermal pain.

Cutting hair doesn't influence it's growth.

On average a hair strand's life span is 5 1/2 years.

The average scalp has 100,000 hairs.   Redheads have about 80,000, black and brown haired persons have about 100,000, and blonds have about 120,000.

Humans have the thinnest body hair of all primates.   Our body hair began thinning eons ago because once we stood erect on 2 feet, only 1/3 of our bodies were exposed to the sun at a time.   Head hair remains plentiful since your head is fully exposed to the sun.

You must lose over 50% of your hair before it is obvious.

Hair is as strong as a piece of iron wire.

Over 50% of men by age 50 have male pattern hair loss.   40% of women by the time they reach menopause, will have female pattern hair loss.

In the Guinness Book of World Records, an Indian woman has hair over 13 feet long.

African and European people are more prone to hair loss than Asian people.

Combing is less detrimental than brushing to your hair.

It is not true that baldness comes from your mother.   It can come from either side of your family.

One inch of you hair can reveal a lot of facts about your behavior.  Scientists can discern facts such as what you ate or drank in the last month.   They can tell if you've been poisoned.

Trichtollimania is the impulse to pull out one's own hair.   Some people will eat it.

Have a great day!
