Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

The entire purpose of President Obama refusing to negotiate with the hostage takers, is to deter them from coming back and forcing new negotiations every time it's time to raise the debt ceiling.  If you show your weakness AGAIN, like you did in 2011, it will be a 100% certainty that the Tea Party economic terrorists will be back over and over again, until the Oligarchs have complete control of the government and every bit of their Tea Party 3rd world agenda is implemented.  And if you do it again, they will never ever believe a Democratic president's stance on not negotiating over the debt ceiling, and it will assure the world that at some point in the future, we WILL default on our debt.  It will be the end of our majority rule democracy.

That's why my heart sank when I read this tweet:

Why John Boehner might have no choice but ‘unconditional surrender’ http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
Below are some quotes from Sean Sullivan's Washington Post article.
Intro

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

The biggest takeaway from President Obama’s Tuesday press conference was confirmation that he would sit down and negotiate with Republicans if they passed short-term “clean” bills to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling.

If they can’t do it for a long time, do it for the period of time in which these negotiations are taking place,” Obama said at the White House.

If Boehner were to agree to a very short-term — say, six to eight weeks — debt ceiling extension and government funding bill, he could sell it to his conference as a chance to get Democrats to the negotiating table on health-care and spending. And in short order, Republicans would have some leverage once again, as yet another shutdown would be triggered without a deal and the risk of default would be resurrected without another debt ceiling increase.
Is the plan, pass a short term debt ceiling, we'll declare victory, then we'll negotiate for you to pass another debt ceiling? This is going to deter the Tea Baggers from coming back over and over to squeeze another pound of flesh from America every time the debt ceiling needs to be raised?  Really?

I thought President Obama looked very tired at yesterdays press conference. So was this short term proposal a mistake, or does the WH actually continue to believe that if they just give the hostage takers a little of what they want, and all we ask for is for them to release the hostages for a little while, they'll never take hostages again?

Obamacare will be gone, Social Security will be gone, Medicare will be gone, Science, Education, Regulations... It won't happen over night, but piece by piece at every CR fight and every debt ceiling fight, the tyranny of the leaders of the minority will be felt through the cowardice of the leaders of the majority.
