Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

In previous diaries, I bored some of you by prating about a Powerpoint presentation on the F-15 Eagle I was building to give to Pima Air & Space Museum volunteers and staff. I gave my presentation on the 21st of September, so it's about time I shared it with you here.

Someone from the museum taped the presentation and I had hoped to embed the tape here, but the recording turned out to be very poor ... the slides are out of focus, the sound is echoey, and I'm hidden in darkness off to one side of the screen.

As a fallback, I can at least show you a PDF of the slides I talked from, along with a copy of the video referenced on a slide near the end of the presentation. All that is below the fold, if you'd like to see it.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

My F-15 Eagle Powerpoint slides

2012 Raytheon Award Video from Jersey on Vimeo.

Update (10/12/13): Some browsers won't support the embedded PDF, so here's a direct link to it: http://slideonline.com/...

Obviously, what's missing here is the script, the comments and explanations I delivered to expand on the slideshow bullets. I realize showing you slides without notes will generate some questions; I hope to turn the presentation into an informational Air-Minded diary on the F-15 Eagle before too long, so please be patient with me.

The presentation, by the way, went very well. There were at least 60 people in the audience, and with one of two exceptions they were still awake when I wrapped up 45 minutes later. Even though preparing the presentation was a lot of work, it was totally worth the effort: I had fun talking about my favorite jet and flying days to an audience of aviation enthusiasts.

If you do have questions, ask away in the comments and I'll do my best to answer, but don't forget that I'm working on an informational F-15 diary post that will flesh out what I'm showing you here.
