Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-LA) makes a facial expression while making a statement, with his wife Wendy, at a news conference explaining his former involvement with prostitutes in Metairie, Louisiana July 16, 2007. Vitter, who admitted to
No, he's not capable of feeling shame.
Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) found an issue that he's getting a lot of attention for, and he's not giving it up, even though it's really stupid and lots of his fellow Republicans hate it. The moment is passed for Vitter's effort to take health insurance away from Congressional staff, members and other federal government employees, but that's unlikely to keep him from continuing to pursue it as an amendment to any future legislation the Senate considers. So Senate Democrats are trying to just get it over and done with, so far to no avail.
Senate Democrats have made an offer for Sen. David Vitter: You can have a vote on your health care amendment, but you have to live with the outcome.

The idea is to get the issue out of the way once and for all, so Vitter doesn’t continuously push for a vote on virtually every bill that comes to the floor, according to several people familiar with the matter. The Vitter plan—which would kill federal dollars to help pay for lawmakers’ and their aides’ Obamacare coverage—has become a major sticking point as the Louisiana Republican has demanded a vote ...

A Vitter aide said the senator will not agree to the request from Senate Democrats that he not bring up his amendment again during this Congress.

He's never going to get 60 votes for this and he knows it, so his only reason for refusing to agree with Democrats to have the vote and be done with it is just that: it would be done with. He wouldn't be able to gum up the works on other pieces of legislation by insisting on his amendment. He also persists in thinking that this bill somehow divides Democrats, that it's a politically difficult one for them. It's not. Which is why they are willing to have this stand-alone vote on it.

But Vitter just isn't smart enough to figure any of this out, so he's probably just going to keep plugging away with this dumb idea that everybody hates just to make life difficult for Senate Democrats who maybe want to get some stuff done. Because he can. Because he's part of the world's greatest deliberative body.
