Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

UPDATE:  GOAL MADE!  This community is awesome, and why I stick around.  Love you all, and thank you so much for helping out.
I don't frequently write diaries, but I saw on Aji's Blog this morning that one of our shining lights, Kitsap River, needs our help.  Many of you know that Kitsap River received the wonderful gift of a new kidney back in 2011.  However, that came with many expenses not covered under insurance or safety net programs, etc.  Kitsap River and Charles covered expenses by skipping the property tax payment on their house that year, and now that bill is coming due.  If it's not paid, they lose their home.  We cannot let this happen.

All it takes is checking her profile, and you can see how supportive she is of this community.  I think it's time for us to give back a little bit to her, and help Kitsap River and Charles keep their home.  Follow me below the fold for how you can help.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

Their property tax bill is $3,700, and it must all be paid in one lump sum.  River & Charles have saved $2,900, so they need a minimum $800 to make the full payment, or the house goes on the auction block at the end of April.  River has set up a GoFundMe page to raise the funds - and if you don't like paypal, it is not required on GoFundMe.  And while the $800 will cover the property tax bills, the goal is set at $1,000 because the juggling to save for the property tax payment means other bills are mounting.

Every little bit helps, and this community has shown that time and again.  $1,000 is 100 people giving $10 each, or 40 people giving $25.  Even if you can't give (and I know there are many who wish they could but are just barely making ends meet); Tips, Recs, and Shares to get this out there to other people will help.  It all makes a difference.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading and helping however you can.

Let's help Kitsap River keep her home.

Update:  Paypal email is rivercs [at] gmail [dot] com - please remember to send as a Gift so as to avoid the paypal fees, and thanks again!  We're up to $660 now, over half way there!
