Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

ATTENTION: READ THE RULES.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

With a reflection of the U.S. Capitol dome serving as a backdrop, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) reacts to a question about negative perceptions of Tea Party Republicans during the Reuters Washington Summit in Washington, October 24, 2013. &nbsp;REUTERS/Jim Bour
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, if he realized what he was saying
Don't let this headline get you down...
Ted Cruz Says It's Too Early To Worry About 2016
...because Ted Cruz is most definitely thinking about 2016, given that he made those comments in South Carolina, where the GOP's first southern primary will be held in 2016. According to Politico, the crowd there loved him:
It didn’t take much for Ted Cruz to bring a crowd of conservatives to its feet here.

By the time the Texas Republican senator finished speaking Tuesday night, an adoring audience hailed Cruz and his no-compromise, combative style of conservatism that has made him the scourge of the GOP establishment but a hero of the tea party.

Ever the wet blanket, however, Politico quickly pivoted to say that Cruz faces skepticism from some Palmetto staters:
“Electability — that will be his challenge,” said Republican Lindsey Graham, South Carolina’s senior senator. “He’s got to show he can put the patchwork together.”
Kinda' hard to argue with that point. Cruz is about as electable as Attila the Hun. I mean, Cruz might do a little better, but the point is they would both be guaranteed losers.

Good news, though: As he made clear when explaining why his skeptics were wrong, Cruz is completely unaware of this fact:

When asked about doubts about his electability, he pointed to the grass-roots “army” and “diverse coalition” that propelled him to victory in his 2012 Senate race.

“We saw support from every spectrum of the Republican Party,” Cruz said.

Dear Ted: Even if the Supreme Court repealed the entire Voting Rights Act, seeing "support from every spectrum of the Republican Party" still won't win you the White House. But it might just win you the nomination. And we'll be rooting for you every step of the way.
