Posting a Diary Entry

Daily Kos welcomes blog articles from readers, known as diaries. The Intro section to a diary should be about three paragraphs long, and is required. The body section is optional, as is the poll, which can have 1 to 15 choices. Descriptive tags are also required to help others find your diary by subject; please don't use "cute" tags.

When you're ready, scroll down below the tags and click Save & Preview. You can edit your diary after it's published by clicking Edit Diary. Polls cannot be edited once they are published.

If this is your first time creating a Diary since the Ajax upgrade, before you enter any text below, please press Ctrl-F5 and then hold down the Shift Key and press your browser's Reload button to refresh its cache with the new script files.

  1. One diary daily maximum.
  2. Substantive diaries only. If you don't have at least three solid, original paragraphs, you should probably post a comment in an Open Thread.
  3. No repetitive diaries. Take a moment to ensure your topic hasn't been blogged (you can search for Stories and Diaries that already cover this topic), though fresh original analysis is always welcome.
  4. Use the "Body" textbox if your diary entry is longer than three paragraphs.
  5. Any images in your posts must be hosted by an approved image hosting service (one of: imageshack.us, photobucket.com, flickr.com, smugmug.com, allyoucanupload.com, picturetrail.com, mac.com, webshots.com, editgrid.com).
  6. Copying and pasting entire copyrighted works is prohibited. If you do quote something, keep it brief, always provide a link to the original source, and use the <blockquote> tags to clearly identify the quoted material. Violating this rule is grounds for immediate banning.
  7. Be civil. Do not "call out" other users by name in diary titles. Do not use profanity in diary titles. Don't write diaries whose main purpose is to deliberately inflame.

Please begin with an informative title:

This "poem", "essay", or whatever "it" is, is something I wrote earlier this year. I posted it under my wordpress blog "The Mad Ramblings of a History Teacher". I don't know if it quite fits into your blogging community,  but it expresses my present state of mind; which hasn't gotten any better this summer.  Now the things I want to write and discuss go beyond the scope of my "education" blog, and they are not what my friends and family on facebook want to hear. So I am looking for a place of logic, sanity, ...reason.

You must enter an Intro for your Diary Entry between 300 and 1150 characters long (that's approximately 50-175 words without any html or formatting markup).

My whole life I thought I was never smart enough to talk with the "big" boys about world matters.  I kept thinking just wait; get a little smarter, read a little more, learn a little more, and your time will come.  Well, now I am almost 50; the social media has exploded all around me, and everyone has an opinion on everything.  Public and private "big" boys all have the solutions to the world’s problems, but no one can agree.  And I am not sure that they’re all that much smarter than me.

...... And the drum taps, taps, taps away.

On one side, the people let you know that if you don't agree with them, you are the "devil" who has lost your soul to.... some one...  To who?.. Now that’s not always clear.  I think it's to whatever evil is “it” at that time (or something like that).

....And the drum thumps, thumps, thumps away

On the other side, the people look down on you if you don't agree with them, and you are just an ignorant "so and so". You must have just come out from under some rock to stick in your two cents to muddy up the waters.

.......And the drum beats, beats, beats away

Of course, I used nice language, that's something neither side has managed in the last decade or so, and oh don't forget to bring in religion that always helps.  The problem is I sometimes don't recognize the religion.  I can't find the rules I was taught as a child, and I hear things I don't remember being said in church.

........ And the drum bangs, bangs, bangs away!

Now it may be too late for all of us, no one is listening to reason anymore; it has drowned in a sea of insanity.  .......

And the drum, the sound of the drum is lost ... in the crashing waves.
