Classy comments from Obama supporters in this diary entry.
Here is the extremely mild statement about Barack Obama that Sen. Clinton made to her supporters:
"Some would say, let's get everybody together, let's get unified. The sky will open. (Crowd laughs). The light will come down. Celestial choirs will be singing. And everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect."It wasn't bitchy.
It wasn't a tantrum.
She shouldn't go "fuck herself." (Commented in the diary linked above in bold text, no less!)
I share her criticism.
Barack Obama is campaigning on the idea that "unity" is some sort of panacea. He will bring the country together in a revolutionary new way. We will be able to "do it" -- what it is is never specified -- because we are all going to "do it" together.
Sen. Clinton was applying her wit to the criticism. And her crowd of supporters appreciated it. To me, not funny -- but because I see something quite serious behind it that I wish people would think about:
Barack Obama might be able to win primaries and caucuses and maybe even a general election campaigning on the theme of "unity."
But he must not govern that way.
Because governing that way will require him to sacrifice some very important core principles of our party in order to "unite" us with the powerful, anti-worker and anti-citizen forces that run the Republican Party.
Beyond that, I don't want to sit at any table with them.
I want to turn their table over and throw them out into the street.
