More diaries and information about this project beneath the
Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power

EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.

This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.

EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write about contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years.
The Diary List
for this project, founded by sidinny, links all the rescued diaries since 2006.

Format, Tag, Schedule

Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). Using the "Elections" tag is also helpful. New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.

EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.

Senate

[AZ-Sen] Why Arizona may be the surprise of 2012 - the big Latino vote that you didn't see coming by LatinoDecisions - New polling data for Arizona suggests that Latino voters may upset the Republican apple cart this year. [NE-Sen] NE-Sen: The case for Bob Kerrey by Ectoras - Bob Kerrey may not be the favorite of everyone here at DailyKos, but he has good Dem qualities and good prospects for winning. Deb Fischer is the republican in this race.

House

[CA-49] CA-49 Phone Bank Opportunity: To Defeat Rep. Darrell Issa for Re-Election! by pipsorcle - Details of a planned weekly phone bank to help Democrat Jerry Tetalman in his challenge against Issa.

[FL-09] Alan Grayson's plan -- listen up Mr. President by annie em - I love Alan Grayson's campaign. You may know him as "the congressman with guts." Every day he teaches me something. Of all the announcements he's sent out over this election season, this is my favorite. If we had a House and Senate full of Alans, what a wonderful Congress it would be. Graysons (D) republican opponent is Todd Long.

[MN-06] Bachmann: defends makers of the "insult Muhammad" video by Bill Prendergast - Last night Michele Bachmann accused the Obama administration of conspiracy again.  Jim Graves (D) is trying to unseat her.

[NY-11] NY-11:  GOP congressman has ties to mobbed-up businessman by Christian Dem in NC - Diarist writes about the ties that Michael Grimm, the only Republican Congressman from New York City, has to the Gambino family. Democrat Mark Murphy is running against him.

[TN-04] Anti-Choice GOP Congressman Pressured Mistress to Get An Abortion by Vita Brevis - Teabagger Republican Scott DesJarlais who represents Tennessee's 4th District is reported to have pressured his mistress to get an abortion when she became inconveniently pregnant. Democrat Eric Stewart is challenging DesJarlais for the seat.

[WI-01] Help all Out the Vote for Rob Zerban by ShoshannaD - Learn more about the candidate taking on Paul Ryan and what we can do to GOTV for Rob Zerban, from any state in the comfort of your home.

State:

[AR-St. House-26] Oh yeah? You think slavery is bad? Well, Jesus and the Constitution, so there! by Kaili Joy Gray - This bit of genius comes to us courtesy of one Loy Mauch, a state representative running for reelection in Arkansas, endorsed by the National Rifle Association, the Arkansas Right to Life PAC, and, until this week, the Arkansas Republican Party. Let’s hope David Kizzia (D) wins.

[AR-St. House-26] Republican AR State Rep: "If slavery were so God-awful, why didn't Jesus or Paul condemn it?" by Chrislove - Yet another batshit racist Republican politician in Arkansas. Our dem in the race is David Kizzia.

[AZ-Maricopa Co. Sheriff] Sheriff Arpaio won't debate challengers by Mother Mags - Embattled Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has opted out of debates with his two opponents. Actually, he's only got one serious opponent, former Phoenix policeman Paul Penzone, who was endorsed by the Arizona Republic on Sunday.

[ND-Gov] Jack Dalrymple And His Big Oil Money "Coincidence" by Adam Blomeke - Is there any chance Jack Dalrymple is accepting bribes from big oil in exchange for special favors and, specifically, approval of the Corral Creek Bakken Mega Unit unitization? Why yes, there is. Ryan Taylor is the dem in this race.

[NV-StSen15] New Ad Holds Nevada State Senator Accountable for His "Nutty" Positions by DLCC - Dem campaign committees, Nevada PAC and two unions - SEIU and AFSCME have released an ad to inform voters how Senator Greg Brower is out of touch with the values and priorities of voters in the Reno-area district.

Various:

[Var-Polling] Daily Kos Elections Polling Wrap: Is Obama's brutal poll day a blip, or a permanent re-calibration? by Steve Singiser - The question, going forward, is whether Romney has permanently shifted the window of this election, even if by only a few points, or whether all of his apparent gains in today's data can simply be chalked up to the way voters felt on October 4th and October 5th.

Ballot Initiatives:

[CA-Prop 30] Vote Yes on Proposition 30: Jerry Brown's Budget Plan by Inoljt - First part of a series of posts analyzing California's on-ballot propositions, this one focusing on Proposition 30.

[CA-Prop 32] Californians: Vote NO on 32 by Ludlow - Proposition 32 claims to be the "Paycheck Protection" proposition. That couldn't be further from the truth. For working folks the proposition actually takes away their voice in Sacramento.

[WA-Ref 74] Referendum 74 (marriage equality) Wash. State-update by Ewashstate - Latest news in the battle for marriage equality in the Evergreen State.
