I'm not going to address this to men in general, especially the men on this site, but I do want to address this and it does apply to some men on this site.
DON'T TELL WOMEN THAT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND OR ARE MISCONSTRUING WHAT HAS BEEN SAID ABOUT RAPE BY OLD MEN WHO HAVE AN AGENDA TO STRIP US OF OUR RIGHTS.If that seems to be common fucking sense to you, then don't wear the shoe I'm about to throw down, and don't read any further. You are a reasonable human being and this is not addressed to you.
If you believe that Mr Mourdoch's comments weren't about rape, they were about a conviction, then please, read on, and then STFU.
First of all, men who are explaining to women that Mourchoch wasn't talking about rape being a gift from god, he was talking about a fetus being a gift from god: you are fucking idiots.
Here it is:
If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, that is a gift from god.
Now, you can parse all you want and say "he's NOT saying that rape is a gift from god, he's saying that the PREGNANCY is a gift from god, and we need to stop misconstruing this (and yes, this has been written here, on this website, by otherwise intelligent people).
Let's try these two sentences in comparison.
"If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, that is a gift from god."
"If a woman is raped and does not become pregnant, that is not a gift from god."
See, by your "logic" the first sentence is NOT about rape, but the second one is.
HOW THE FUCK DOES A RATIONAL PERSON COME TO THAT CONCLUSION?Answer: a rational person does not make those ridiculous distinctions. So if you think sentence one is a statement on "deeply held beliefs" and NOT about rape, then the second one is also not about rape.
Then WTF is it about?
A small aside about "respecting" the "deeply held beliefs" of those who BELIEVE that abortion is murder even in case of rape. I do not have to respect ANY belief. Belief isn't instantly deserving or respect, no matter how deeply held it is.
A lot of people have really fucking stupid beliefs, and I don't have to respect that. Maggie Gallagher SINCERELY BELIEVES that I am a threat to marriage. I'm sorry, but an amoeba can hold a more rational belief than that. I WILL NOT respect that belief because it is fucking stupid.
There are people who believe that blacks are inferior, Hispanics are lazy, gays are perverts and/or pedophiles. That women should not work outside the home, that children should be seen and not heard, that boys shouldn't play with dolls and girls shouldn't play with matchbox cars.
Those are all deeply held beliefs that are just fucking wrong. And I am not required to respect them just because they are based on faith.
Here's the thing.
As long as I've been alive, knuckle draggers have opposed a woman's right to choose. It's a stupid position to have, so they tried to make it less stupid with "exceptions."
One of those exceptions has ALWAYS been rape. Why? Because to suggest that a woman should be forced to carry her rapist's baby was just unthinkable.
And now they're saying, well, even in that case, abortion is wrong.
So I get THAT insult from the knuckle dragger idiots, and then I get a further insult by supposed liberals who say "Hey, this is NOT about rape."
No. It's not about rape. Nor is it a war on women. Nor is it about equality. Nor is it about having basic fucking respect for your fellow citizens.
IF you want to argue that these comments shouldn't be "taken out of context," then please, explain here and now how talking about a woman getting raped and then pregnant is a gift from god, but that is NOT a statement about rape, it's a statement about deeply held beliefs that we should respect.
Because I guaranfuckingtee that if it was YOUR vagina that had a rapist's sperm in it, you would probably consider cause and effect and exercise YOUR right to choose with that in mind.
But instead you sit in the rather comfortable position of knowing you will never be impregnated by a rapist, and saying that any discussion of such a thing happening has nothing to do with rape.
