Fear of being committed may have caused Connecticut gunman to snap

— The gunman who slaughtered 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school may have snapped because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility, according to a lifelong resident of the area who was familiar with the killer's family and several of the victims' families.
Fox News is reporting this as an exclusive -so it is entirely unconfirmed. Their article is based on the testimony of a U.S. Marine, Joshua Flashman, 25, who is said to have grown up not far from where the shooting took place.  They also say
A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.
I regret linking to FOX.  Perhaps someone else will pick the up soon with more information on the assertion that the mother had filed paperwork to get conservatorship over her troubled son.

4:18 PM PT: NEWTOWN — A Connecticut pastor is refuting a Fox News report quoting his son as saying that the gunman who massacred 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School may have snapped because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility.

The source, Joshua Flashman, 25, is the son of Richard Flashman, a pastor at Beacon Hill Evangelical Free Church in Monroe, Conn., where a few of the victim’s families attend church.

“I’ve just spoken to Josh,” Richard Flashman said in a statement tonight. “As the Fox News article indicates, the information Josh spoke to them about was hearsay and not confirmed. I suggest you do not run with the story. I am perplexed why Fox would run with it in the first place.”
