Actors-turned-politicians.  There's been a fairly long history of it, from Helen Gahagan, one of the first two women elected to Congress,  to Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California.  California has been a real trailblazer when it comes to such things.

Below the fold, I give you a ditty by the great Tom Lehrer, about the late former senator George Murphy, best known for suggesting that Mexicans were uniquely suited to farm work, because they were "built lower to the ground".
