With all the gun control frenzy in full swing, we need to take a step back and salute the NRA for what it has done right

There seems to be a great deal of flak being directed toward the NRA these days.  Then again, on the other side of the fence, the NRA is getting a record number of new applicants.  I think both sides have legitimate claims about gun control, but honestly, lately I am leaning more toward the NRA's views on the issue.  I will save my personal views for another journal.  This one is about some facts.  If you disagree with the NRA's views, that is fine.  Having two friends who are instructors for the NRA I tend to see how they affect things in my back yard.

So here I offer a few salutes to the NRA on what they do right, stepping back from the difference in views that people have.

*For offering range safety courses to insure that shooting sports remain among the safest sports in the world, injuries on firearm ranges are less than injuries on golf courses.  Hats off to the NRA for making our ranges a safe place to shoot.

*For the "Refuse to be a victim" course the NRA offers.  In this course a fire arm is never handled.  "Through a four-hour seminar (shorter presentations are available) called Refuse To Be A Victim®, you can learn the personal safety tips and techniques you need to avoid dangerous situations and avoid becoming a victim.
Hundreds of federal, state, and local law enforcement officials across the country have implemented Refuse To Be A Victim® into their crime prevention and community policing initiatives."

*For teaching Americans how to safely handle and use their fire arms.  Anyone who takes an NRA course will tell you that the number one emphasis is on safety.  Whether we agree or disagree with the NRA, we must recognize that they are training people in a very responsible way.

*Without the NRA there would be no central organization to set standards of safety when using a firearm for the law abiding citizen.  We would have millions of gun owners with absolutley no training running around with firearms.

Thankyou NRA for all the good work you do that so often is over looked.
