In case you missed it, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was grilled on the Benghazi, Libya consulate attack this week by a Senate Foreign Relations Committee. One of several GOP senators on the committee, Tea Party darling Rand Paul of Kentucky, tore into Secretary Clinton whilst sporting a toupee made of roadkill:
"I'm glad that you're accepting responsibility. I think that ultimately with your leaving, you accept the culpability for the worst tragedy since 9/11. And I really mean that. Had I been president at the time, and I found that you did not read the cables from Benghazi, you did not read the cables from Ambassador Stevens, I would have relieved you of your post. I think it's inexcusable."
Speculation is high that Clinton is leaving her post in part to prepare for a run at the White House in 2016--unless Obama decides to seek a third term.
What are the chances that Clinton faces Rand Paul as the GOP nominee in 2016? Not to reduce American politics to a caricature--it does that on its own quite nicely--but I have to admit it would make for some supremely entertaining television.
