I assume many of you know of Malala Yousufzai, the Pakistani teen who was shot in the head by Taliban cowards but lived. After several surgeries she is starting to recover and has recently started talking again. The most recent surgeries installed a titanium plate in her head to fix the hole and inserted a cochlear implant to partially restore the hearing in her left ear. This second part hits home for me as I use a CI also and they truly are one of the most amazing medical devices ever created as far as I am concerened.

"Both operations were a success and Malala is now recovering in hospital. Her medical team are 'very pleased' with the progress she has made so far," the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham said in a statement. "She is awake and talking to staff and members of her family."
If you aren't familiar with Malala's story I urge you to Google some links. This is by far one of the coolest stories of 2012 even with the horrifying damage done to her by the men so terrified by a woman holding a text book they had to try to kill her.
Malala was in a school van on October 9 when the gunmen stopped the vehicle and shot her at point-blank range.
Prior to that attack
(Malala) had blogged fearlessly about girls' education and accused the Taliban of thriving on ignorance. The Taliban forbid girls in the classroom and have threatened to kill anyone who defies them.
When the attackers stopped the school bus Malala was riding the men asked the girls on the bus which one was Malala but the girls stood strong and refused to answer. Unfortunately the gunman recognized Malala and opened fire killing some and grievously inuring Malala.

Well they failed. She's alive. She's talking. She can even hear again. If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times and I will continue to shout it from the blogosphere so long as I have fingers and a keyboard.
