John McCain angry face
John Asshat McCain says that Rand Paul's notable talking filibuster over the Administration's drone policy could lead to...gasp...rules that require a talking filibuster:
"What we saw yesterday is going to give ammunition to those critics who say that the rules of the Senate are being abused," he said on the floor. "I hope that my colleagues on this side of the aisle will take that in information."

McCain co-authored a scaled-back rules change that preserved the filibuster and became the basis for the bipartisan deal, defeating a more far-reaching reform proposal.

"We were able to put a side of the there was another effort just at the beginning of this Senate to do away with 60 votes and [go] back down to 51, which in my view would have destroyed the Senate," he said Thursday. 'A group of us worked very hard for a long time to come up with some compromises that would allow the Senate to move more rapidly ... and efficiently, but at the same time preserve a 60-vote majority requirement on some pieces of legislation."

Rand Paul got a standing ovation from the gallery last night when he finished his filibuster. ABC reports conservatives and progressives alike are heaping praise on Paul.

I'm no defender of Rand Paul, for certain. But if you want to grind this Republic to a halt, you should have the guts to go out to the Senate floor and defend doing it. Not hiding behind a ridiculous defense of dysfunction and then running to the Washington establishment talk shows to bitch as McCain does. McCain is essentially saying Paul should have gummed up the works the way he does it: secretly and without accountability.

I don't agree with Rand Paul on just about anything. But when he gets opposition from a Washington establishment media clown like John McCain, and applause from the general public, then I'm pretty certain he's on the right track. Senate Democrats should take note.
