As the Socialist newspaper, the Appeal to Reason prepares its one million copies of the Populist edition, the Post office has issued a directive that the  Appeal can mail out no more extra copies than the number of its subscribers. The circulation of the Appeal has been increasing dramatically, along with a rise in the influence of the Socialist Party of America. The Populist edition is designed to attract ex-People's party supporters to socialism.

Paterson, New Jersey - Mass Arrests Have Not Stopped Picketing

Over one thousand strikers have been jailed in Paterson, yet the Silk Strike has not been broken. Judge Klienert has sentenced several strikers to terms of up to three months in the county jail at hard labor. He has advised strikers that if they do not like the laws they are at liberty to leave the country. The majority of the strikers are foreign-born. Many have been arrested over and over again. But the arrests have not kept them from picketing the factories.

Florida - Walmart Files Lawsuit against UFCW and Our Walmart

From today's headlines at Democracy Now:

Wal-Mart Sues Groups over Protests at Stores
Wal-Mart appears to be retaliating against groups that have organized historic protests against its labor practices. The retailer filed a lawsuit against the United Food and Commercial Workers union and its affiliated group, OUR Walmart, in a Florida court. The suit accuses the groups of trespassing on Wal-Mart property 73 times in 13 states over the past year. Wal-Mart workers are not unionized, but the UFCW has demonstrated in support of employees’ calls for better pay, benefits and working conditions.
