Frequent gay basher Rush Limbaugh made an impassioned plea on behalf of homophobes on his radio show today, asking that people be more tolerant of intolerance.

Speaking on yesterday's coming out by NBA player Jason Collins, the right wing radio host bemoaned the fact that our nation is not more accepting of those who choose not to accept homosexuals.

Limbaugh set it all up with one of those self-congratulatory descriptions that acts as a kind of early warning siren for bigotry:

"You know, I'm one of the most loving, unifying, want-everybody-to-do-well, like-everybody, hope-everybody-has-a-great-life kind of guy you'll ever run into."

Then he laid down a classic Limbaugh "keep your gayness to yourself" groove to disprove his own mischaracterization of himself.  And of course he got in his trademark thinly-veiled reference to forced gay sex in the process:

*

(quote below begins about 2:00 mark)

"If you want to say you're gay, fine.  But does it have to be rammed down everybody's throats all the time?

'You bigot!  You homophobe!'  This is how they shut people up.  But clearly the acceptance only goes one way.  So it's not acceptance at all that we're talking about.  There are demands that people quote unquote accept.  And if you don't then you're divisive, or you're a bigot, or you're a homophobe, or whatever.

[...]

I've been under the impression that it was normal to be uncomfortable talking about other people's private lives.  Like I say, I grew up in a family where people's sexual preferences weren't discussed.  Sex discussions, that kind of stuff never made it to the dinner table."

Decent folks who believe in tolerance and equality are no longer powerless against Limbaugh's efforts to spread intolerance on the radio.  StopRush is making a major impact by convincing advertisers on this show to withdraw their ads--and with your help we can do even more.  Just a few emails, tweets, or Facebook messages a week to Limbaugh's advertisers can go a long way toward making hatred less profitable.  It is our collective voice that makes us strong.
