Well, this is disconcerting. Just when I finish booking flights for my parents to land at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport, CNN tells us that a man entered Terminal B with a military-style, semi-automatic assault rifle. That man approached the ticket counters and fired his gun wildly into the air, scattering the crowd. An air Marshall approached the man and demanded that he drop his weapon. When he didn't, the agent fired one shot, presumably killing the man. Reports indicate that the man also tried to kill himself at that time, so there's some confusion over which bullet did the deed.

Bush Intercontinental is Houston's largest airport, located 15 minutes or so north of downtown. Its terminal B serves a number of a major airlines, and it's one of the most well-trafficked parts of the property.

We've got just another case of a completely stable man carrying a completely stable weapon, firing wildly at anything and everything that might cross his path. But, you know, who needs background checks? I'd rather worry that my next trip to Bush Intercontinental will be my last.

From CNN:

The station interviewed a woman who works at a McDonald's in the terminal.

"As soon as he walked in, he just automatically started shooting quickly," said the employee, who said her name is Kendra. "And we hear two shots and we just automatically started running. We ran all the way to the back."
