In a striking, unexpected discovery, researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have determined that vitamin C kills drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) bacteria in laboratory culture. The finding suggests that vitamin C added to existing TB drugs could shorten TB therapy, and it highlights a new area for drug design. The study was published today in the online journal Nature Communications. [snip]

Hispanics eat the most fruit of any racial group so to test if Vitamin C works look at Hispanic TB rates.

β€œIn 2010, 11,182 TB cases were reported to CDC from the 50 states and the District of Columbia. That same year, as in previous years, Hispanics or Latinos exceeded all other racial or ethnic groups with the largest percentage (29%) of total number of reported TB cases in the United States

Asians eat the most vegetables but they have higher rates of TB too.

” foreign-born persons and racial/ethnic minorities continued to be disproportionately affected by TB in the United States. The TB rate among foreign-born persons in the United States in 2012 was 11.5 times higher than among U.S.-born persons. The TB rates among Asians, Hispanics, and blacks were 25.0, 6.6, and 7.3 times as high as whites, respectively. Among U.S.-born persons, the greatest disparity in TB rates was between blacks and whites; the rate among blacks was 5.8 times as high as that of whites. ”
Notice the foreign born have higher rates but Foreign Born Hispanics are the most likely to eat traditional high fruit Hispanic diets. I assume the same is true for Asians eating Veggies.
