“At this time in our history, it is imperative that we elect leaders who are committed to represent the people who elect them,” said Marsh. [...]
“Evandra shares my belief that the citizens of Petersburg and the surrounding areas should be responsible for the education of their children, rather than state appointed officials,” Marsh said. [...] “I need Evandra working with me in Richmond to make our community a better place,” Marsh said. “Evandra will always stand up for Democratic values. She understands how important education is and will fight the Republicans’ attacks on our schools.”
Marsh, a civil rights icon and Richmond’s first black mayor, rarely endorses candidates. But Dance's support of Republican efforts has been just too much for him, apparently. It's not hard to see why. Marsh was at the center of Dance's most traitorous action. It was Marsh's absence from the Senate, when he was attending President Obama's second inaugural, that allowed Republicans to force through their redistricting plan in the Senate. The plan that two Democratic House members, including Rosalyn Dance, were willing to support. The House eventually killed the plan, but few Democrats have forgotten Dance's willingness to give cover to Republicans.
Thompson also picked up the endorsement of the Petersburg Education Association this week. That might have something to do with the fact that Dance has supported ALEC's school privatization agenda has actually cosponsored ALEC-inspired legislation that would "reaffirm the 10th Amendment and chastise federal mandates." That's no Democrat.
