Speaking on a story in the New York Daily News about rising Mexican obesity rates, right wing radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh cracked a joke today which quite efficiently managed to be both racist and insensitive to the overweight at the same time:

"What does this mean for illegal immigration?  Well, we gotta relate it to one of the hot issues.  70% of Mexicans are morbidly obese.  70%.  You would think they'd be easily spottable if they tried to illegally enter the United States.  And if they're coming across the border with a couple of Happy Meals in hand or whatever it's probably a dead giveaway."

Limbaugh, who has a rare disorder called Ironius Adversius that renders its victims unable to detect irony, is pictured below:

Flush Rush Facebook volunteers are eager to see how this joke goes over with advertisers whose ads are playing on the Rush Limbaugh Show in places like Tucson and south Texas.  You know, places where some might be more likely to see immigrants as more than just a punch line.

Decent folks who believe in tolerance and equality are no longer powerless against Limbaugh's efforts to spread intolerance on the radio.  StopRush is making a major impact by convincing advertisers on this show to withdraw their ads--and with your help we can do even more.  Just a few emails, tweets, or Facebook messages a week to Limbaugh's advertisers can go a long way toward making hatred less profitable.  It is our collective voice that makes us strong.
