I'm trying to find more info, but it's been tough...
I just saw this tweet several times--mostly re-tweeted (one by @youranonnews), but the original author is Jason Gulledge (@ramdac)
Breaking: NSA is calling an emergency classified briefing with Congress for this afternoon to fight off @repjustinamash's bill to stop themIs it true? Like I said, I'm still scouring the 'tubez, but I wanted to put this up in case anyone else has info....will update if I get more...
UPDATED 2:25 EDT: Ah, this seems to be from Huffington Post. Hmmmmm....
UPDATED 2:30 EDT Here's another link:
A letter circulated only to select lawmakers early Tuesday announced that NSA Director General Keith B. Alexander would host a question and answer session with members of Congress in preparation of a Thursday vote on Capitol Hill expected to involve an amendment introduced last month by Rep. Justin Amash (R-Michigan).I submit to those who blow this wholesale spying off: If this was Not a Big Deal, then what does Keith Alexander have to hide, that he went to all this trouble to set up a meeting at the last minute to "whip votes"? Since when does the head of a spy bureau "whip" anything in our government? And remind attendees--presumably those being "whipped"--that they have to keep silent?
That amendment, a provision tacked along to a Department of Defense Appropriations Act along with nearly 100 others, aims to greatly diminish the NSA’s domestic spying powers in the wake of disclosures attributed to Edward Snowden, a 30-year-old former employee of Booz Allen Hamilton currently fighting extradition to the US where he faces charges of espionage for his role in leaking state secrets.
There is a serious conflict right there.
These people are out of control. What is it going to take to get folks to understand that?
