UnaSpenser's quilt top

Vetwife has been a friend to many on this site.  She works tirelessly for veterans, helping them to get the benefits to which they are entitled.  She also helps many others in distress.  In short, this woman is someone who will always be there to help when one is down.

She knows what it is like to be down because her own life has been very hard.  Commonly, one crisis leads to the next, something Vetwife takes in stride.  She is a cancer survivor.  She is the advocate and caregiver for her husband, a Vietnam veteran with PTSD that requires frequent hospitalization, and she has been a caregiver to multiple family members, as well.  She's currently raising a grandbaby as her own because her daughter, a brittle diabetic with other health problems, cannot.  I honestly can't tell you the exact number of plates Vetwife keeps spinning in the air at any given time but trust me, it is a big number.

Even the strongest of warrior women get weary and need support.  So we are here today to make Vetwife a community quilt -- something to remind her that she is not alone in her struggles, that people care about her and are grateful for her hard work.

paradox's quilt, detail

What is a community quilt?  It is a colorful quilt containing words of love and support from you, transcribed by me onto muslin in archival ink.  My sister and I sew the messages with together with vibrant fabrics -- and the result is something pretty powerful.  When a quilt recipient wraps themself in loving words, they feel it.  And that love never washes out.  Vetwife will have the support of a community in a blanket she can use at any time she needs a little extra moral support.

It takes time and material to make a community quilt.  If you would like to help with the cost, here is a PayPal link - or message me for an address if you prefer a check.  $15/message is suggested although some give more to cover for messages for those who can't afford to donate.  My sister and I thank you for your support!
