Kalliope

Means "beautiful voice" from Greek καλλος (kallos) "beauty" and οψ (ops) "voice". In Greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine Muses.

Life Poem

We do what we can,
with what we've got.

Our life is only that.

We stand,
at the end of the day.

We see some respect
from a few,
our friends.

We smile for a moment.

And then we're gone.

I wrote this poem recently,
while thinking of ulookarmless,
aka CJ Campbell,
and while thinking of myself.

It's my variation on the old line from the seventies:

Life's a bitch,
and then you die.
I challenge each of you,
you regular IK poets,
write your life poem.

Out write me.

Write a life poem
so much better than mine,
that I'll be embarrassed
that mine is here.

Of course,
you understand,
I don't think you can do that;
but I think if you try,
you'll give us your angle on life,
your way of describing
what we all deal with.

So,
show us what you got!

And,
if you're worried
that I'm not focusing the group
on political poetry,
remember:
art is always political,
and,
unless it is explicitly Republican in nature,
it's on our side.

A focus on life,
is a focus on working class life,
and we are the party
of the working class.
