Received this e-mail today from Providence Mayor and gubernatorial candidate, Angel Taveras (D. RI), regarding raising the minimum wage:
When I was growing up, my mom worked hard to support our family. For a time, she earned the minimum wage, and worked other low wage jobs to raise us – the hours were tough but she was proud to be able to provide for us.

Since then, the minimum wage has failed to keep pace with inflation, making it nearly impossible for a single parent making minimum wage to keep their family out of poverty.

That’s why I am proposing raising the minimum wage to $10.10. If you are ready to give 65,000 hard-working Rhode Island families the raise they need, click here to show your support.

This will have a real impact on thousands of Rhode Island families like the one I grew up in. Setting the children in these families up for success means meeting all of their basic needs, and this raise will assure that families can once again do that.

Please join me today in supporting a fair minimum wage, and together we can build a stronger Rhode Island.

Forward together,
