OK

Peggy Noonan . . .

The constant mischief of the progressive left is hurting the nation's morale. There are few areas of national life left in which they are not busy, and few in which they're not making it worse. There are always more regulations, fees and fiats, always more cultural pressure and insistence.
It's true.

Especially the sinister part about our fiats.

As the Merriam-Webster Dictionary explains, a fiat is a command or act of will that creates something without further effort.

It's like when we created racial equality by fiat.  I forget who gave the command, but that's all it took.  Because no further effort was required, we were able to move right along and end the Vietnam War by fiat.  One progressive act of will on some campus somewhere and the carnage in Vietnam was over, which demoralized Americans everywhere, particularly the drafted ones.

When we haven't been busy fiating everything in sight, we've been busy undermining public faith and trust in conservatives, which of course demoralizes God and all the angels because they're conservatives too, and when God and all the angels are demoralized, it emboldens labor union thugs and Rachel Maddow and Islamists and Putin, and every time that happens it drags the whole world two and sometimes even three Friedman Units closer to the coming of the AntiChrist.

Peggy is justifiably upset.

She hopes we're all proud of ourselves.

As Peggy often points out, she keeps nailing this over and over again, but she's like a prophetess in the wilderness, a lone voice of wisdom, unheard and unheeded because of entrenched liberal bias in the media conglomerates owned by arch-conservative billionaires.  Sundays are the worst, she can hardly get a word in edgewise because progressive leftists are all over the morning talk shows, controlling the narrative and dominating the debate.

Then there's the far left culture of the Beltway.  Thanks to the high regard Democrats have for us, hundreds of DNC buses bring thousands of progressive bloggers to Capitol Hill every day to provide guidance and counsel to Democratic lawmakers.  Some of us right here at the Daily Kos have even more influence.  I can't even count how many times Armando has addressed a joint session of Congress.  And when he isn't addressing a joint session of Congress, OPOL is.

Have I mentioned that Colorado is the Shiznit has her own office in the West Wing?

Colorado is the Shiznet has her own office in the West Wing.

That.  Is.  Access.

OK.  Perhaps I've been exaggerating our power and influence.

Slightly.

Fortunately for all concerned, this diary isn't about me.  It's about Miss Margaret Noonan, her deep thoughts, her feelings, and an imaginary batting cage . . .

I think a lot of people right now, certainly Republicans and conservatives, feel like a guy in a batting cage taking ball after ball from an automatic pitching machine. He's hitting the ball and keeping up and suddenly the machine starts going berserk. It's firing five balls a second, then 10.
In other words, conservatives and Republicans ventured into Reality's batting cage and managed to hit the ball for awhile, but then they proceeded to swing and miss every .2 seconds, and now they're swinging and missing every .1 seconds.

That sounds about right.

I'm going to clarify the berserk part of this for you, Peggy.  Wall Street went berserk, Big Oil went berserk, Big Pharma went berserk, the NSA went berserk, the NRA went berserk, every Republican from Boehner on down went berserk, and it was that hero of yours in the cowboy hat who opened the doors of the asylum and handed them those Reagan Revolution flamethrowers you're all so proud of.

And they've been pulling the triggers ever since.

Congratulations, Peggy.  Your heroes have been losing control by the hour, but they're still pulling those triggers, and the fires are burning, they're burning into the night . . .
