Received this e-mail today from Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D. NY) in support of Mary Burke's (D. WI) gubernatorial bid against Governor Scott Walker (R. WI):

Did you know that 24 states have never elected a female governor? It amazes me that our elected leaders are still so overwhelmingly male in 2014.

I’m committed to changing that this year, and I am writing to ask you for your help.

Right now, an amazing woman in Wisconsin is poised to defeat extremist Republican Governor Scott Walker and make history as the state’s first female governor. I pledged to help Mary raise $18,000 by midnight tomorrow, but I cannot come through without you.

Mary can win this race. She is consistently polling within single digits, but the RGA is fighting with all it has to protect Walker – they have already spent nearly $1.5 million lying about Mary’s record.

She needs us behind her all the way. Will you help me raise $18,000 for Mary by midnight tomorrow?

File - In this Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 file photo taken in Maple Bluff, Wis., Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker talks about progress that's been made on his 2010 campaign pledge to add 250,000 jobs by 2015. Walker's new book isn't exactly a tell-all. In fact, it glosses over or just leaves out many pieces in the story related to Walker's successful drive to take power away from public unions and the subsequent recall battle. Just this month, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker officially launched his reelection campaign. It only takes a glance at his record to see why we cannot let him win.

Scott Walker repealed equal pay laws in Wisconsin, demolished collective bargaining rights for union members and passed one of the nation’s most restrictive, undemocratic voter ID laws. He also cut funding for Planned Parenthood and restricted women’s access to critical care.

We need to take action on these issues – both in Congress and in state houses across the country. But to do that, we need partners. We need Mary Burke.

Will you join me in helping her raise $18,000 by midnight tomorrow?

Together we can help Mary make history in Wisconsin.

Thank you for your continued support.
