WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 23:  Senate Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) answers reporters' questions during a brief news conference outside the Senate chamber at the U.S. Capitol July 23, 2013 in Washington, DC. Received this e-mail today from Democracy For America:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is in deep trouble -- and the shocking primary defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is a very promising sign that McConnell's troubles are about to get much deeper.

Big picture: If the November election were held today, McConnell would lose. And Democrats would save the Senate from Republican control.

Here's why: McConnell continues to block common-sense solutions to our nation's problems -- like killing Sen. Elizabeth Warren's student loan debt refinancing bill on Wednesday.

Sen. Warren's ground-breaking legislation would have helped ease the burden on the middle class, allowing Americans to refinance their student loans -- just like homeowners -- at lower rates. But Sen. McConnell directed his fellow Republicans to block it because, to pay for it, the bill would have included taxes on millionaires and billionaires.

It's not the first time Sen. McConnell has sided with billionaires over the middle class. But with your help, it can be the last.

Elizabeth Warren has vowed to go to Kentucky to campaign for Sen. McConnell's Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes. We're going to stand with her.

Following the defeat of her bill, Sen. Warren went on MSNBC to condemn Sen. McConnell's obstruction and define whose interests McConnell is serving in the Senate:

"Mitch McConnell is there for millionaires and billionaires. He is not there for people who are working hard playing by the rules and trying to build a future for themselves."

Elizabeth Warren is right. Sen. McConnell has done everything in his power to block progressive efforts to fight income inequality and help the middle class.

That's why we need to ditch Mitch this November -- and we're in a prime position to do so. Recent polls have shown Alison Lundergan Grimes holding a narrow lead over Mitch McConnell -- 49% to 46% in a poll released after Sen. Warren's student loan bill was blocked.

If we flip more Senate seats from red to blue -- and keep progressive Democrats in office -- we have a much better chance of passing laws to help the middle class, like Sen. Warren's Bank on Students Act, next year.

That's a good sign, but it just means we have an opportunity to defeat McConnell. Now is the time to join Sen. Warren and make that opportunity a reality.

Stand with Elizabeth Warren and help her take down Mitch McConnell -- donate $3 to DFA today.

Thanks for getting Elizabeth Warren's back on this one,

- Jim
