Received this e-mail today from Senator Mark Begich's (D. AK) campaign:
My mom supported our family by herself after my father's disappearance. All six Begich kids, including me, learned the values of hard work from her and know that Alaska women deserve equal work for equal pay.

For far, far too many women across the country, equal pay for equal work is a concept instead of a reality. That needs to stop. I’ve introduced a bill to make equal pay for equal work the law of the land -- and I need you to show your support.

If you believe in equal pay for equal work, please add your name to our petition.

I know the importance of equal pay, and the positive effects it can have on Alaska families. Allowing employers to discriminate against women employees is taking money out of the pockets of hardworking Alaska families and making it harder for working people to get ahead.

Alaska women make just 74 cents on the dollar compared to Alaska men. And anyone who wants to tell Alaska women that they’re not working hard enough should be ready to find out just how tough Alaska women are.

Equal pay for equal work is more than just a matter of fairness -- it’s a smart way to help working families achieve the American dream. Show your support for equal pay and sign our petition.

On behalf of my mom, my sisters, my wife, and every woman who’s not getting equal pay for equal work, I want to thank you for your support.
