Newpioneer's quilt - the center block is called "Butterfly"

Who went to NN14?  If you did, you will remember Edrie from the registration desk.  She is not the Edrie who blogs on Daily Kos as edrie but the Edrie who blogs as edgery...it's a little confusing because there are two Edries, of not dissimilar age and appearance.  Unfortunately, there is a very visible difference at the moment -- a cast.  Edgery has a cast.

There was an accident at the last part of the conference.  Edrie (meaning edgery) took a tumble and broke her ankle -- badly.  MsSpentyouth held her hand and kept her from looking at her foot until the EMTs arrived -- because the foot was turned in a very unnatural direction and it hurt just to look at it.  Needless to say, it was a long, very painful day in the ER -- and then edgery had to get home to DC to await surgery.

She's actually had two surgeries, one for the ankle and one for a spiral break in a finger which she broke while getting used to her crutches.  Edgery lives alone, which brings another set of challenges while healing from something like this.  Dressing, bathing, well doing anything is much, much harder in a cast.  It is going to take awhile to heal from this terrible injury.  In the meantime, let's surround her with love and good feelings in the form of a community quilt!

Border fabric of newpioneer's quilt -- children with fireflies.  Alma, I found firefly fabric!

What is a community quilt?  It is a quilt containing loving words from you, transcribed by me in archival ink on muslin and sewn into a colorful quilt by me and my sister, Ann.  The power of words to heal is pretty incredible -- ask any of the recipients.  Edgery will know, when she wraps up in this quilt, that she is not alone in spirit and that there are so, so many people who are seeing her whole and healed from this accident.  It will help, trust me!

This pictures shows the backing fabric for newpioneer's quilt.  We love the hot, tropical colors.  And if it is a little reminiscent of a rainbow flag, well, good!

It takes time and material to make one of these quilts - and it is a living for me and my sister.  If you would like to contribute toward its cost, here is a PayPal link or message me for an address if you prefer a check.  $15/message is suggested but some give more to cover for the messages of those who cannot afford to contribute.  That being said, all messages are welcome, regardless of donation!
