I'll apologize for the short diary, but the below pretty much says all that needs to be said. This is from an email sent to my company.

For those of you who wish to give supplies instead of cash for the victims of Hurricane Katrina -  we have confirmed with the First District police that 400 families will be coming to DC on Monday to stay in the Armory.  They stressed that their biggest needs at this time are:

Bottled water and anything that would constitute a "care package" such as:

  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Blankets
  • Undergarments
  • Soap
These items can be brought to the First District office located at 415 4th St SW.
Update [2005-9-2 15:23:57 by mlk]:Modthinglet called and the office is taking donations 24/7. ==

Please help if you can.

Update [2005-9-2 15:16:52 by mlk]:Please forward this information on to as many DC area people as possible so that we can get as many supplies as humanly possible.

Another update after the flip:

Update [2005-9-3 11:17:58 by mlk]: I went to Costco this morning to buy supplies and took them over to the First District police station.

YES THEY ARE TAKING DONATIONS! Do not pay attention to WTOP or any other media who says not to donate.

If you can't donate goods, but have time to volunteer, there is a signup sheet there for volunteers.
