So who to root for, considering that my two teams are not in contention (the Cubs and A's)?

The White Sox are cross-town arch enemies of the Cubs, while the Astros are bitter division foes. It's a wash. Futility index -- the White Sox have the second-longest futility streak in baseball (Cubs are the longest). The Astros have never been to a World Series, so that's a wash.

Texas versus Illinois? Gotta root for my home state. Plus one White Sox. Silly political considerations? Illinois is a blue state, Texas a red state, and Bush pretends to be from there. Gotta go with blue. Plus two White Sox.

Uniforms? The White Sox have one of the coolest uniforms in baseball, and would be the coolest if they went back to their 1917 "Black Sox" logo. Plus three White Sox.

All the shit my White Sox fan friends will talk for the next 50 years if the Sox win as as the Cubs continue their inevitable failures? Minus three White Sox. We're back to a wash.

My father was a White Sox fan. I have great memories of him taking me and my brother to Sox games at the old Comiskey Park. If he were alive, he'd be beside himself right now. Plus one million White Sox.

Go Sox!

(Our SB Network sites following the action: Crawfish Boxes for the Astros, and South Side Sox for the White Sox.)
