Rambling thoughts on...summer. What you get sometimes depends on where you are. Down south, it's high humidity, hot sun - just like a Spinal Tap amplifier, our UV index goes up to eleven...  Every few years or so, there's lots and lots of noise... the Great Southern Brood of cicadas makes its appearance - and the sound is deafening...This is one of those years - heard the beginnings night before last, and it promises to be cacophonous. But that sound alone invokes "summer" to me. (And the sound on the clip is about right, especially some three blocks from my house in the trees around a little creek...Some folks have sworn the vibrations from these insects can set off a car alarm...)

And there are smells...good and bad. Gasoline mixed with fresh-mowed lawns, the neighbor's grill, garbage left in the can a little too long, sunblock, diesel, sweet olive along the fence row, mosquito repellant...

Escape time? Yep. To the beach, to the mountains, or just to the back yard or front stoop. Gotta have music. Lots of music.

So, let's get to it, shall we?...

The original namesake of this diary, Eddie Cochran...

A different take, Blue Cheer...

Not to be forgotten, Brian Setzer and the Stray Cats...

And the one most folks know, The Who (Woodstock, 1969...now that was a summer...say goodnight to your neighbor...)

So what means "summer" to you? What are your summer memories - from childhood, your teen or young adult years, now...?

Sight, sound, feel, smell, taste... Music, food, friends, family... Describe your (real or imagined) ultimate summer...
