In the latest efforts to identify “Julie Doe“, the transgender woman found dead under extremely suspicious circumstances in Lake County, Florida, on September 25, 1988, the owners of the Facebook page dedicated to solving her case have created a flyer for free use by any business owner who thinks their customers might recognize Julie Doe.
In particular, it would be extremely helpful for this flyer to be posted in as many LGBT-friendly establishments in Florida as would be willing to help get justice and a name for Julie. Police are requesting that any physicians who treated gender dysphoria prior to 1988 search their records and recollections for Julie, and if possible attempt to make contact with any patients whose medical details match the ones on her NamUs profile to make sure they are safe and well. Doctors currently providing hormonal treatment for gender dysphoia are also invited to post such a flyer in their waiting rooms, because one of their patients might recall seeing Julie in another waiting room or support group.
Detective Tamara Dale has expressed hope that these efforts will allow this woman to finally be lain to rest under her true name, and that whoever hid her body in five foot tall weeds in the then-rural area of Lake County will be found for questioning. She is someone's child, maybe someone's sister, maybe someone's aunt. Her family deserves closure and the chance to give her a proper burial after 27 long years.
If you recognize Julie Doe, or have any information about the circumstances surrounding her death, please contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 352-343-2101. You don't have to give your name.
