The Benghazi Commission wasn't enough. Republicans are back for more, working to clear their good name with a new investigation into government records that just happens to center around Hillary Clinton's use of a private email.
[Rep. Jason] Chaffetz hasn’t scheduled a hearing yet, but the Utah Republican has obtained new information, according to sources close to the committee. Chaffetz said the probe will be larger than Clinton but that she’s right in the middle of it.
Hillary in the crosshairs, eh? Shocking. Hey, Chaffetz, if you want that "new information" on the front page of a major national newspaper, just leak it. Publishing first and making corrections later is all the rage these days.
House Speaker Paul Ryan is reportedly leery of a partisan probe but green-lighted it anyway, "while making clear his preference that Chaffetz steer clear of Clinton personally."
But given the House Oversight Committee's jurisdiction over the Federal Records Act and FOIAs, Chaffetz just can't help it!
"I’m not specifically trying to target the secretary, but when she creates her own private email system, she’s ensnarled herself.”
Don't worry, Paul, Chaffetz is clearly proceeding with caution.
