Wow, Ted Cruz. Just wow. Locked in a battle for votes with Donald Trump, and having lost to Trump in the southern states he’d aggressively targeted through his campaign, Cruz has apparently decided that insulting voters is the way to win going forward, telling the Christian Broadcasting Network’s Brody File:
Listen, Donald does well with voters who have relatively low information, who are not that engaged and who are angry and they see him as an angry voice. Where we are beating him is when voters get more engaged and they get more informed.
Also according to Cruz, Trump “does well with a certain demographic of voter,” and in case that was too subtle, Cruz then quoted Trump saying “I love the poorly educated.” He also predicted that Trump would falter in the West after having dominated in the Southeast, playing directly to every regional stereotype about ignorant Southern hicks.
It’s flattering to people who are already Cruz supporters, I guess, but if you were leaning Trump yet still open to Cruz, would this make you feel like Cruz was the guy who was going to understand and respect you? Maybe this the kind of charm that’s given Cruz such an interesting reputation among people who know him and have to work with him.
