Yowser! Republican Senator Orrin Hatch has apparently worked the kinks out in the flux capacitor and traveled to the future to meet and reject President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court, because even though Hatch has yet to sit down with Judge Merrick Garland, on Thursday morning an op-ed by Hatch was published on the Deseret News website that said:
Like many of my Senate colleagues, I recently met with Chief Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court. … Our meeting, however, does not change my conviction that the Senate should consider a Supreme Court nominee after this presidential election cycle. [...]
I met with Judge Garland as a personal friend and out of respect for his position as a distinguished federal judge ...
So, Sen. Hatch has either broken the constraints of time and space, or he proved that he’s a partisan hack, marching in lockstep with his Republican brethren, to cynically politicize the Supreme Court of the United States. You make the call. (And yes, the op-ed mysteriously disappeared shortly after it was published.)
Please donate $3 today to help turn the Senate blue. The future of the Supreme Court depends on it.
