On Monday night, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine became the latest in an increasingly long line of Republicans who realized, hey, there are lifeboats on the Titanic, so may as well jump onboard. Penning an op-ed in The Washington Post, Collins said:
With the passage of time, I have become increasingly dismayed by his constant stream of cruel comments and his inability to admit error or apologize. But it was his attacks directed at people who could not respond on an equal footing — either because they do not share his power or stature or because professional responsibility precluded them from engaging at such a level — that revealed Mr. Trump as unworthy of being our president.
While one might argue that at this point in time, dumping Trump isn’t exactly an act of moral courage by a Republican, the more the merrier.
Over the course of just the last 24 hours, Collins joined the company of the former governor of Michigan, a retired four-star general, the (now) former Hispanic spokesman for the Florida Republican Party, past EPA chiefs, not to mention, 50 national security officials, to publicly say, never Trump.
Stay tuned for more defections. And probably, from Trump, an insulting nickname for Collins.
