With Trump making a threat against his political opponent direct enough to draw the attention of the Secret Service, it’s up to Trump supporters to find all the many ways that Trump wasn’t publicly advocating political assassination. Like verbal Pokemon.
California’s Duncan Hunter took the most direct approach: Trump don't talk good.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), one of the first members of Congress who endorsed Donald Trump, on Tuesday evening defended the Republican nominee's line about "Second Amendment" people, arguing that Trump just isn't very "articulate."
How very reassuring. Dear China, our president wasn’t really declaring war. He just has trouble speaking the English.
But Hunter’s position is just a Squirtle, while Rudy Giuliani has a position that goes for a Grimer.
"What he said very clearly was that if Hillary Clinton were elected president, she would get to appoint judges to the Supreme Court ...
"And then he said, 'And you have the power to do something about it,'” Giuliani went on. “And what he meant by that was you have the power to vote against her. You have the power to campaign against her. You have the power to speak against her. You know why, because you're Americans."
Is that what he said? Hang on, let's check what Trump actually said.
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know.”
And then he said … none of the things Giuliani claims he said. No “you have the power” nothing about voting. Not one word that came out of Giuliani’s mouth resembles those that tumbled from Trump’s orange lips. But Giuliani has an explanation for why everyone else heard something that doesn’t resemble the recitations of the faithful.
"To buy that, you have to be corrupt because if you said that to me, I would say to you: 'Are you out of your mind?'" he said.
Only those with the un-corrupted ears of a Trump supporter can hear the true words of the Don. Perhaps that explains why so many people at a Trump rallies are willing to accept what sounds like blind hatred, racism, misogyny, and bleak pessimism without getting upset. To them it sounds great.
Because Donald Trump is speaking in tongues.
