On Thursday, Hillary Clinton delivered a blistering indictment on Donald Trump’s ties to and courting of the “alt right”—or what we used to call white supremacists—along with his own vile, racist rhetoric and past. And since that speech was delivered, Trump has gone on a twitter rant, calling her a liar, accusing her of race-baiting and fear-mongering, being a predator and, of course, lacking stamina.
What he hasn’t done? Dispute any of the points she made about him in the speech. And from the Republican leadership? Crickets. Not one has emerged to defend Trump, not one has come out to denounce Clinton’s words.
And why is that? Because they can’t.
