Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have very different political styles, but they are arguably the two most talented politicians of their respective generations. Now, Hillary Clinton is going to have the benefit of both of them campaigning for her at full throttle:
Obama plans to devote at least one to two days each week in October to campaign for Clinton through rallies, targeted radio and television interviews, social media outreach and fundraising, said an adviser who requested anonymity.
In addition, the president’s aides have told the Clinton campaign he would be willing to appear in television ads for her. His wife, Michelle, has already cut radio, online and TV ads for the Democratic nominee, another aide said, also requesting anonymity to discuss internal planning.
Obama brings his considerable popularity to the table along with his vast political gifts, and he showed over the weekend that he’s willing to make a very, very direct appeal to African American voters, saying it would be a “personal insult—an insult to my legacy” if black voters don’t turn out.
Where Donald Trump has what may be historically low support from top Republicans, Hillary Clinton has what may be historically high support from leaders of her party. It’s Mr. Me Me Me going it alone vs. the “Stronger Together” candidate demonstrating togetherness on the campaign trail, with virtually all of the Democratic Party’s biggest names functioning as a team—Team Clinton.
